Live EDGE Design Competition

Qualified entrants in this year's exciting challenge will compete in one of two categories: student and general/open. The general/open competition is for design engineers, hobbyists, inventors and anyone else who is not a full-time student. Designs will be judged only against designs submitted within the same category.

Live EDGE's design requirements for submission are intentionally broad, so as to open the challenge to the widest range of ideas. To enter, your design must be original and innovative, use electric and/or electronic components, and positively impact the environment, such as by increasing energy efficiency or reducing carbon emissions. It is helpful to view a sample entry (pdf 286Kb) and the winning designs from 2007.

You can register your design on the website between October 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009, following the entry process. Winners will be announced in March, 2009.

The rewards of Live EDGE are unique. The challenge not only awards each of the two winners with a $25,000 cash prize, it provides for support services to bring the designs to market, valued at an additional $25,000 each. Six runner-ups will also receive $5,000 each. All Intellectual Property rights remain with the entrants, so two winners will enjoy the rare pleasure of seeing their designs become a reality, all commercial benefits, and the satisfaction of helping the environment.
